ERMES Website EuRopean Multimedia Educational Software Network

Esprit Project N° E24111

The aim of the project was to establish a Multimedia Support Network to foster the design, development, diffusion and adaptation of European Multimedia Educational Software. The network addresses the needs of publishers, multimedia developers, learning content providers and users of multimedia educational software.

The ERMES network provided a set of commercial services as project results to contribute to specific objectives as follows:

  • stimulate the demand for and use of Multimedia Educational Software (MES) by setting up permanent exhibitions and demonstration of multimedia courseware,
  • facilitate the production of high quality European multimedia educational software in  terms of quality pedagogical design, multilingual and multicultural approach, capability of integration into different European training and educational frameworks;
  • encourage skills development through training courses for the different actors involved in the target market (e.g., authors, publishers, MES project managers, marketing professionals, etc...);
  • overcome the fragmentation of the European market by promoting trans.- national co-operation and providing information and consultancy services;
  • develop and exchange best practices, focusing on MES evaluation, quality assurance and successful business models.

ERMES was to improve the effectiveness of education and training activities and will play a key role in the near future to fulfil the increasing demand for education and training at an European level. This is one of the sectors which benefits most from the new information and communication technology. Today, European suppliers of multimedia educational software mainly operate in their local or national markets and their products do not always have the pedagogic value, the true multimedia content and the high degree of interactivity that are required for use in education and training.

To address this situation ERMES supports the co-operation among European suppliers of multimedia educational software, helping them to address the global market and to produce high quality multilingual and multicultural learning packages.

There are web sites addressed to users (including a learning shop) and addressed to publishers.
