MetaCampus REAL Raising Public Awareness of Science and Technology (Proposal-No RPAM-2002-00033) |
The MetaCampus Marketplace (MM) is the result
of the project IST-2000-26314 METACAMPUS. It offers a user-friendly life-long
learning portal to assist citizens in their selection and purchase of
those 3rd party learning resources best fitting their needs, preferences
and profile. The MM is based on various technologies related
to the adult learning market and therefore offers the following services:
(1) Training Consultant, an intelligent agent that prescribes and recommends
learning assets depending on user profile; (2) Learning Resources Catalog,
dynamically updated by resource providers; (3) Learning Content Assembler,
a tool that allows tailoring contents from different resources; (4) e-payment
system, that supports cards, direct debit and transfer transactions; (5)
Authentication Broker, based on single sign on and certified users, enabling
the access to contents from different providers by registering only once
in MetaCampus. The purpose of MM is to make learning resources
available in a sophisticated way whilst providing customised on-line training,
consulting and professional development aswell as qualification services
to citizens and employees. It takes the approach of either consumer (home)
based learning and/or (on-the-job) training. It addresses both the learning
resource provider and also the educational community. These objectives are achieved by conducting
market validation in three different countries. While the Spanish and
Belgian pilots are focused in the vocational domain (workforce learning,
in-company training and/or specialized learning), the German pilots are
focused in the home/personal domain.
In terms of supply and demand there are a number of specific objectives
involved when confirming the adequacy of the MM services. These services
are then exploited in Europe. The specific objectives are (1) to examine
the suitability of the MM portal in two different domains: vocational
learning and home/personal learning (2) to evaluate existing draft pricing
policies and the already made financial model; (3) to elaborate a definitive
business plan before Initial Deployment.
