PROLEARN
Network of Execellence Professional Learning

FP6 - Information Society Technology

The proposed network of excellence "professional learning" focuses on two key issues. Future elearning scenarios and contexts, and the use of resources for personal training in SME's and larger companies. Based on these objectives, the NoE will investigate advanced issues especially relevant for professional training including brokerage platforms and services, business models for specific markets and advanced elearning and knowledge work management arrangements.
.
To accomplish these goals the NoE brings together the most important research groups, as well as other key organisations and industrial partners, thus bridging the currently existing gap between research and education at universities and similar organisations.

The PROLEARN Academy will develop and coordinate professional elearning research and academic training in the PROLEARN network.

PROLEARN will integrate:

  • Personalised Adaptive Learning-Personalisation will enhance learning environments to support experimental and virtual collaborative learning communities.
  • Interactive media- Elearning provides a much more interactive learning process as opposed to the traditional book or training method.
  • Online experimentation- This can help students acquire applicable knowledge which they can then adapt to practical situations.
  • Learning Objects, Metadata and Standards- Reuasble multimedia content components known as `learning objects` can save time and money and enhance the quality of digital learning experiences.
  • Brokerage systems and learning management- The existence of brokers or market places determines that creating completley new services can be beneficial.
  • Business models, processes and markets- Here technical infrastructures, pedogogical innovation, commercial relevance, usability and educational benefits can be extended due to service providers, user policy makers and market regulators.
  • Knowledge work management- This means specialising in knowledge intensive products by taking into account, work processes for professional learning, learning arrangements, knowledge workers, organisational processes and appropriate infrastructures.
